These images serve to reinforce the fact that simple visualization of polar body extrusion does not indicate fidelity of oocyte maturation, as unseen chromosomal or meiotic spindle defects may be present. Microtubules are stained with β-tubulin (green), while chromatin is stained with Hoescht (blue). GVBD and metaphase I images were taken at ×100. Anaphase, telophase and metaphase II images were taken at ×93.
